Mary was a true and faithful friend from the time we met at an ASO softball game just over 45 years ago.
She always wanted to know what I was doing and how I felt because her focus and generosity of time and energy was always for others.
Mary’s bright spirit and clear voice were strong, constant reminders of that care.
I am only one of many deeply saddened by her loss.

Jean Lemieux MACI) and Elaine Tomko (ECHO) post a remembrance of Mary Lamielle
Since our first telephone calls to Mary early in our shared MCS illness journey, Mary has always been there, made time to talk to us, to share her feelings, experience, educational undertakings, and advocacy outreach. We want to let her family, friends, and others know how much she was respected and voice our deep gratitude and appreciation both personally and that of our organizations.
Mary was a REAL LIFE FORCE. Many may remember Mary from her publication of the news journal, “The Delicate Balance”, which she edited for more than a decade. Through this and then through the internet she shared her knowledge and expertise in working on both the local and Federal level providing resources for people with MCS and ES to take action and help themselves while making a better environment for everyone. She did it all so ably with intelligence and rigor. As Executive Director of the NCEHS, which she founded in 1984, Mary served on committees, submitted public comments, gave presentations, and she always had a new project we could contribute to by adding comments to propel government agencies into taking action to help people with disabilities caused by low-level chemical exposures! She was a tremendous motivating source for all of us. It will be difficult to match what she accomplished for the MCS Community. Thank You Mary!
She will be greatly missed by all of the members of Ecological Health Organization (ECHO) and The Massachusetts Association For The Chemically Injured (MACI) and all of your friends in the MCS Community nationally.

I am at an utter loss of words for the gratitude for this trailblazer. One of the very first people I became aware of in the advocacy community for environmental illnesses. She coached me on my very first public comment to the ADA Access Board. She was instrumental in me wanting to be involved. I hope family and friends know how deeply important she was for a patient population that is so under-served, underr-epresented, misunderstood, and in dire need of acceptance, understanding, and medical care. She was one of our biggest voices and the loss will be felt.

Mary, we are so grateful for your contributions to humanity, in particular to those whose lives have been turned upside down by chemical exposures.
Which adjectives describe you? Knowledgeable, courageous, passionate, selfless. A friend and tireless advocate for others. Miss you terribly, Mary.
To this day, I vividly recall our very first telephone conversation, after Nick Ashford had been commissioned to write the New Jersey report on chemical sensitivity, because YOU petitioned the NJ Department of Health to write that report. That was nearly 40 years ago. What you initiated continues to live on as more and more lives are disrupted by pesticides, mold and other exposures—globally.
Thank you for all you’ve done!
With love,
Claudia

We owe immense gratitude to Mary for having the vision and perseverance to stimulate the New Jersey Department of Health to commission the work that Claudia Miller and I helped put chemical intolerance on the map. We and thousands of patients will be eternally grateful. Few have done so much.
