Obituary of Richard L. Merriett

Richard L. Merriett, 79, of Mays Landing passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at home. He was born on December 15, 1938 in Evans, Georgia to parents James Merritt and Edith M. White Andrews. His family relocated to Philadelphia, PA, and he was educated in the Philadelphia Public Schools. He attended Benjamin Franklin High School. Richard formerly attended Child's Memorial Baptist Church in Philadelphia, where he served on the usher board. His mother moved to Mays Landing and he would frequently visit her there, eventually moving there full time himself. Richard worked for over 30 years for Trico Metal Products in Willow Grove, PA. He enjoyed going to the movies, the arts and boxing in his youth. Richard battled glaucoma for many years eventually becoming blind from the disease. He is survived by his son, Ford, his grandson Ford Jr., two great grandchildren and many cousins and friends. A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third Street in Hammonton, where funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery on Eighth Street in Newtonville, NJ.
