Joseph J. Capelli, Sr., 86, Born in Hammonton, March 19, 1924. Beloved and devoted husband, proud father, and humble patriot. Passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Feb. 15, 2011. Survived by his loving wife, Anna of 68 years, and children: Joseph Capelli, Jr. (Geneva), Robert Capelli (Linda) all of Orlando, FL; Jane Hoopes (Gene) of Hammonton; Maria Clark(George-US Air Nat. Guard Ret. Brig. Gen.) of Evergreen, CO; Joanna Capelli, Catherine Capelli Viers, PhD (Jeffrey) and Patricia Capelli all of Murfreesboro, TN. Grandchildren: Ann Byers, Christopher Clark, Michael Capelli, Lt. Cmdr. USCG, Michelle Baros, DC, Joseph S. Capelli, Jennifer Piacenti, Grace Viers, Faith Viers. Great Grandchildren: Frank Byers, Gianna Byers, Michael A. Capelli, Palo Baros, Nicholas Capelli, Gianna Piacenti, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents: Gaetano and Frances Capelli, siblings: Sarah Panarello, Stephen, John, Charles, Thomas Capelli. A decorated WWII Veteran-Philippines, Bronze Star Medalist; Retired State of New Jersey, 41 years service, Southern Regional Supervisor. Retired NJ Army National Guard and Air National Guard-Master Sergeant; member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, 3H and Alabama Slammers Hunting Clubs, VFW, 157th Field Artillery Battalion. Lived life to the fullest; enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, reading, travel, family & friends, home handyman projects, plowing snow, playing with grandchildren, playing the harmonica, cooking and making wine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 11:00am in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish at St. Anthony of Padua RC Church, 285 Route 206, Hammonton, where a viewing will be held from 9:00am until 11:00am. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Hammonton. Memorial donations maybe made to AtlanticCare Hospice, PO Box 1626 Pleasantville, NJ 08232 or to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish St. Anthony's Church, 226 French St., Hammonton, NJ 08037. Arrangements are by the Carnesale Funeral Home, Hammonton.
