Michael J. Scarpato, Sr. 47, of Hammonton passed away on Monday in AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Division. Born in Philadelphia he lived in Hammonton for the past 20 years. He formerly was a mortgage broker and currently owned and operated Scarpato Insurance & Finance. Michael was a member and past King Lion of the Lions Club of Gloucester Township. He was a member and former fire commissioner with the Whitman's Square Vol. Fire Company. Michael was very involved with politics in Hammonton and throughout Atlantic County. He served as a County Committeeman; he was a member of the Hammonton Democratic Club and he was a member of the Hammonton Planning Board. Michael is survived by his wife: Kathleen Scarpato (nee Giacobbe); his two sons: Michael J. Scarpato, Jr. and Dylan Michael Scarpato both at home; his parents: Frank and Frances Scarpato of Washington Twp.; two brothers: Frank Scarpato of Washington Twp.; James Scarpato and his wife Jennifer of Hammonton; his father and mother in law: Anthony and Sandy Giacobbe of Winslow; his two sisters in law and their husbands: Jackie and Bob DeLash; Toni and Bill Wilkinson; his aunt and uncle: Linda and Michael Verrecchia of Philadelphia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 10:00am in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish at St. Joseph's Church, Third & French Sts., Hammonton. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hammonton. A viewing will be held Thursday 6:30pm to 9:00pm and again on Friday 9:00am at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third St., Hammonton. Memorial Donations maybe made to the Scarpato Children Trust Fund.
