Charles M. "Chubby" Sacco, 96, of Hammonton passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at the Hammonton Rehabilitation Center. Born on May 8, 1919, in Hammonton, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. A Master Plumber in the state of New Jersey, Chubby worked with his father and four brothers in the family business, Pete Sacco and Sons Inc., later owning the company and renaming it Sacco Bros. Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. He served two terms on Hammonton Town Council from 1970 to 1972 and from 1973 to 1975. He was a former member of the Rotary Club, Sons of Italy Lodge No. 1658, American Legion F. A. Funston Post 186, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1026 and the Moose Lodge, all in Hammonton. An avid golfer, Chubby was most proud of his hole in one, which was sanctioned by famed golfer Tom Watson and listed in Golf Digest. Chubby retired to adult communities in Hollandale Beach, Fla., and later in Delray Beach, Fla. Never one to be idle, Chubby spent his time as a handyman for neighbors, famously saying, "I can fix anything but a broken heart." Chubby enjoyed socializing and traveling with his wife Marian, and spending time with his friends and family. Always one to light up a room, Chubby knew his way around the dance floor and made a friend everywhere he went. He was predeceased by brothers Anthony , Walter, Albert , Peter , Virgil and James. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marian (nee Ciocco); daughters Judith Watson (Mark) of Delray Beach, Fla., and Lorraine Olivo (Frank) of Hammonton; sister Gloria Frederico of Hammonton; granddaughters Michele Donio (Robert) of Hammonton, Susan Leiser (Mark) of Hammonton, and Monica Kemp (Jason) of Hammonton; and seven great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Church of St. Joseph's, 226 French St. in Hammonton. Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church. Entombment will follow in Greenmount Cemetery, Hammonton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 1525, Ranson, WV 25438.
