Mark was my best friend growing up. We did things together as far back as I can remember. In our early days, we'd go on exploring adventures on our bikes. Then in High School we both had girlfriends together and began to put kids things aside, but we never lost our inner child. Later on, when Mark bought a car, we went on new adventures chasing girls. We both liked music and so we went to all the dances in the area. Our lives began to diverge when I went into the Navy. We'd always go out on dates with girlfriends when I came home on leave. Then when I was discharged from the Navy we were both over 21 so we were able to chase girls in all of the local bars and nightclubs. Mark finally decided to settle down and get married, so I was his best man at his marriage to Marie. We remained best friends although I was off to Drexel University and Mark worked at Whitehall. Our adventures become more domestic. We poured a driveway at his house...one of those "how hard can it be" lessons in life that teach you how hard it can be. We built a family room in the lower level of his house that taught us construction. Our lives slowly diverged once again as I graduated and took a position in Wildwood, NJ. I'd come home on weekends and we'd do things together. Eventually our separate lives caught up with us when I got married. In recent years, my first girlfriend Loretta and I would call Mark on his birthday and we'd catch up on our lives and reminise about the good old days when we were young and carefree. It was always good for some hearty laughs. Last year, it was tough tracking him down and when we did, it was a very sad conversation. I miss Mark and will always remember the great times and crazy things we did together. If there is a lesson to be learned in his passing for me, it's not to wait until a birthday to call an old friend. Tomorrow may never come.
Rest peacefully old friend,
Gordon
