Edwino Soto - Perez, 75, of Colling Lakes passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at AtlantiCare Medical Center in Galloway Township. Born in Aguada, Puerto Rico he was a resident of Collings Lakes since 1963. When he arrived from Puerto Rico he worked as a short order cook in Chicago and then New Jersey. He then was a truck driver and warehouse manager for Asbury Distributing Company. He retired as a forklift operator for Johns-Manville Corp. in Berlin. In the early 1960's alongside Father Joseph Mungari "Father Joe" they established the Spanish Mass at St. Joseph's Church in Hammonton. He was the President of the Spanish Legion of Mary in Hammonton for many years. He was a "Cursillista" member of the cursillos in Christianity of the Roman Catholic Church. He played the guitar and sang in the Spanish Choir at both St. Joseph's Church and Our Lady of Victory Church in Landisville, NJ. He was the lead singer of the music band Almas De Borinquen and the lead actor in the Spanish Community Theater in such roles as Herod the Great and Pontius Pilate. He is survived by his wife of fifty four years, Milagros Valentin De Soto; three children, Edwino "Eddie" Soto Jr of Collings Lakes, Haydee "Jessy" Milagros Soto, M.D. and her husband Rajiv Srivastava of Branchburg, NJ, and David Soto of Colling Lakes; one granddaughter, Andrea of Vineland; one brother, Vergentino Soto; and two sisters, Virginia Soto, and Carmen Soto all of Puerto Rico. A viewing will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish Church of St. Joseph's, 226 French Street in Hammonton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hammonton.
