Obituary of Marie F. McIntyre
Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marie Frieda McIntyre, 84, passed away peacefully with her daughter Diane, son in law Charles and dear friend Marlane Vaniman by her side at her daughter's residence in Folsom on May 7, 2014. She was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Joseph and Frieda Freitag. Marie was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was deeply devoted to her family and always put them before herself. Marie was a customer service information specialist for the State of New Jersey. She loved her job and her co-workers. She began her career in 1984 in the Department of Human Services at the Gloucester/Salem Medicaid District Office in Deptford. Many changes occurred during the course of her career. The Gloucester/Salem Medicaid District Office was merged with the Camden Medicaid District Office in 1992 and Marie began commuting from Monroeville to Camden. Marie was soon transferred to a new department that was created to serve the elderly and disabled. She was responsible for processing referrals for nursing placement from hospitals in the surrounding counties. Marie took these responsibilities very seriously and established working relationships with the hospital Social Workers and Discharge Planners. She went to work early every day so that the Regional Staff Nurses responsible for conducting on-site visits at the hospital were aware of the patients they needed to see. Marie was so dedicated to her job that she was nominated for a NJ Public Service Recognition Award and received a Co-worker Recognition Award in May 2004. The nomination read "McIntyre, Customer Service Information Specialist I, has incredible dedication to her position. Once again Marie's office merged and the office was relocated to Hammonton and Marie moved to Hammonton to live with her daughter Diane. By this time, Marie was in her late 70's but still was a productive and dedicated employee. She retired after 27 years of service on May 31, 2011. "Her dedication was an inspiration." She was loved and will be missed by her co-workers. Marie was predeceased by her husband, Edward, and her son John. Her son Edward passed away one week after her death in Texas. She left to cherish her memory her children, Diane Eby, her husband Charles and their daughter Elizabeth, with whom she lived, her daughters, Carol Leth and Patricia Kelley; her sons, Joseph and his wife Ann, Thomas and Donald and daughter in law Alice, 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Marie was also survived by her sisters, Helen Poseynot; Ann Grussemeyer and her brother, Robert Freitag and numerous other loving family, co-workers and friends, including the Ladies Auxiliary of the Weymouth Vol. Fire Co. and their Chief, John Carrigan. A Memorial Service will be held 10:00am Saturday May 24, 2014 in St. James Lutheran Church, 1341 Mays Landing Road in Folsom. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Williamstown. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the Weymouth Vol. Fire Co. c/o John Carrigan 7509 3rd Ave., Mays Landing, NJ 08330 or to the America Cancer Society, Eastern Division 1851 Old Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill, NJ.
