Obituary of Joseph J. DiMatteo

Joseph J. DiMatteo, 63 of Hammonton passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at home. Born in Vineland he was a lifelong resident of Hammonton. Joe was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1026 in Hammonton, and the American Legion Post No. 186 in Hammonton where he was a Past Commander. He worked in construction most of his life and he was a member of the Iron Workers Local No. 399 and the Laborers Local No. 172. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, winemaking, canning, and cooking but his greatest joy was spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Marie DiMatteo. He is survived by his wife, Velma A. DiMatteo (nee Michel) of Egg Harbor City; one daughter, Tina Dixon of Hammonton; two sons Shawn DiMatteo (Dena) of Hammonton, Joseph DiMatteo (Carol) of Mullica Township; five grandchildren, Thomas Dixon, Samantha Dixon, Alex Reillo, Jaime DiMatteo, and Shauna DiMatteo; one great grandson, Logan Dixon; two brothers, Frank DiMatteo Sr. (Barbara), and George DiMatteo all of Hammonton; his dear aunt, Laura DiGioia; his sister in law, Helen Daub; and his brother in law, John Michel. Viewing will be held on Sunday 5:00 PM - 7:00PM and Monday after 9:00 AM at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third Street in Hammonton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 10:00 AM at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish Church of St. Joseph's, 226 French Street in Hammonton. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Hammonton. Family requests donations to the American Legion Post No. 186, P.O.
