Obituary of Cecil D. Baughman

Cecil D. Baughman, 83, of Hammonton passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Hammonton Center. Born in Eldred, PA he was a longtime resident of the Lower Bank and Weedville, PA before moving back to New Jersey. He was a graduate of Clarion High School in Clarion, PA and received a Master Gardener's degree from Penn State. Cecil proudly and honorably served in the US Navy for over twenty years where he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and was a decorated veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Cecil was awarded numerous medals and commendations for his service. He was a member the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in DuBois, PA. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked at Atlantic Community College in Mays Landing. Cecil was an officer in numerous agricultural organizations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He was an accomplished gardener and thoroughly enjoyed horticulture. Cecil tackled every obstacle with determination, grace and patience. He always did what needed to be done and never complained, no matter how hard or difficult the task. A man of few words, he always had a great sense of humor and loved his family. Cecil was predeceased by his parents, Alford and Muriel Baughman; his two brothers, Robert Baughman and Ernest Baughman; and his sister, Eleanor Craig. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Ronnie (Lorraine) Baughman (Downing); his step-son, Michael Downing (Karen); six grandchildren, Tristan, Courtney , Blair, Benjamin, Daniel, and Jeanne Cochrane (Dan) his brother, William Baughman (Donna); and his sister, JoAnn Yeager (Robert), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was also devoted to his German Shepherd, Molly. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third Street in Hammonton, where funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
