Obituary of Philip J. Chappine

Philip J. Chappine, Sr., 92 of East Elmtowne, formerly of Hammonton, died peacefully surrounded by his family on January 3, 2014 at the Heritage where he resided for four years. Born in Atsion, he was class treasurer when he graduated from Rancocas Valley HS in 1940. As Production Supervisor at Whitehall Labs. for 25 years, he retired in 1983. Prior to this time, he was employed in the accounting department at Eastern Brewery. He worked for many years as an Income Tax Preparer and Notary Republic. Phil was a very active member of St. Joseph's Church. He was one of the first appointed Eucharist Ministers when the Ministry began and he also served the residents of Greenbriar Nursing Home and Hammonton Manor. Additionally, he was church usher and a member of the Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus where he served as financial secretary for many years. He is survived by his beloved wife Dolores(Cessato), his son, Phil, Jr. of Lindenwold, his brother Frank of Southampton and many nieces, nephews from the Chappine and Merlo families. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rose(Merlo), his brothers, Ernest, John, Dominic, Anthony, his sister Josephine Wright and his special family of Merlo brothers and sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 11:00am in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish, Church of St. Anthony of Padua, 285 Route 206, Hammonton, where a visitation will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Pallotti Council #3471 PO Box 25, Hammonton, NJ 08037 or to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish, 226 French St., Hammonton. Arrangements are by the Carnesale Funeral Home, Hammonton.
