Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Maciolek
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Elizabeth Maciolek (née Dougherty) passed away at "The Shores" at Wesley Manor on April 27, 2023. She was 86.
She was born on October 9, 1936 to James and Mary E. (nee Gibbons) Dougherty. She grew up in Mount Airy as the eldest of 9 sisters, with her aunts, uncles, cousins and friends always nearby.
A graduate of Little Flower High School class of 1954, Mary continued her education at the St Agnes School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She practiced nursing at Roxborough Memorial Hospital, Mount Holly Hospital, Cinnaminson Manor, and as a school nurse in South Jersey before retiring to the Mystic Islands with her husband, John Maciolek. She was a caregiver her entire life for her family and extended family beyond her career as a nurse.
Mary married John in August 1958, the love of her life. On their first date, they went to see White Christmas at the movie theater. They both loved music, gardening, and hosting family get-togethers where the Macioleks, Jaworowskis and Dougherty families all united. It was their joy to raise their children at Corpus Christi parish and within their close knit Willingboro neighborhood community which yielded lifelong friendships.
She was a proud Irish Catholic, an avid reader, and lived to spend time with her children, grandchildren, sisters and friends. She is survived by her Children John (Terri), Julie (Anthony), her daughters in law, Christine Maciolek and Evelyn Flati, sisters Margie Snyder, Patricia Dillinger, Therese (Frank) Brennan, Jane Dougherty, Julie Carlisle and Susan Schofield; brother-in-law, Frank Larkins; grandchildren, Alexander (Kathleen), Sara, Catherine, Mary-Ann, Michala (Dakota) and Peter.
Mary was predeceased in death by her parents, husband, John P. Maciolek, Sr., sons Michael and Matthew, and sisters Helen Dougherty and Anne Larkins.
Her Memorial Mass will be held Thursday morning, May 4th at 11 o'clock at St. Frances Cabrini RC Church of St. Damian Parish, 2nd Street at Atlantic Avenue, Ocean City, NJ where friends may call from 9 o'clock until the time of mass. A private burial will be held on May 5th.
