Obituary of Maureen Murray

Maureen M. Murray (nee Rooney), 81 of Ocean City, NJ passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, November 17, 2022. Born in Lisnaskea in County Fermanagh, Ireland, she came to the United States alone at the age of 16 to make a life for herself. She was a long-time resident of Ocean City, NJ. Maureen was a very active member of her church community at St. Frances Cabrini in Ocean City. There she served as an altar server, Eucharistic minister, and religious education teacher, among many other services. She was also a member of the Sisters in Christ Theresa where she was very involved and very loved. Maureen enjoyed laughing, praying, singing, dancing, and sharing everything she could about her Irish heritage. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Before retiring, Maureen worked extensively as a very respected manager in the Claridge casino.
Maureen was predeceased by her sister, Joan Rooney and her granddaughter, Heather Capella. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Murray, her daughter Lisa Capella (Anthony), her stepsons, Kip Murray (Gina), Kevin Murray (Kim) and Matthew S. Murray (Tashena), her brothers, James, John, and Michael Rooney, 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022, 9:30 am - 11:00 am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish Church of St. Joseph's, 226 French Street in Hammonton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, 500 N. White Horse Pike, Hammonton, NJ.
