Obituary of John Robert Grocki
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Robert Grocki, 76, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family and friends, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Despite his health battles over the years, John remained positive, optimistic, and determined to continue to live life to the fullest and to enjoy every moment doing things that brought him joy.
Born and raised in Springfield, NJ, on September 6, 1946, he was the son of the late John and Suzanne Grocki. John was a graduate of Jonathan Dayton Regional High School class of 64’. He also earned an undergraduate degree at Kean College and graduate degree at Seton Hall University after he returned from serving in the Air Force. He was employed as an Asset Manager at PSE&G for 30+ years and after retirement shared his love of Phillies baseball with his wife, making memories attending all season ticket games as well as traveling to Florida for spring season training.
John was a skilled and talented saxophone and clarinet player, who recorded and released an album with his high school band. John joined the U.S. Air Force out of high school, honorably served many years and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. His military skills translated into his daily practices of tidiness, punctuality and dependability as well as always having an accurate account of every utensil in his home. Most days John spent his time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for his family, baking treats around the holidays, playing golf with friends, and being the greatest supporter of his marathon running wife, Donna. John was a devoted Phillies fan and a passionate dog lover who was loved by his fur babies Nikki, Rocky, Huck, and Chase.
John was a strong patriarch of his family, a man who never cared much about himself and who even in his final days would give the shirt off his back for a friend no matter what time of day or night. He was a loving father and grandfather who always took care of his children and did the best he could to teach and guide them. John was a strong, proud, and good man. He is loved and will be missed by many.
John is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Donna Grocki who he has been married to for 19 years, four daughters: Diana Grocki, Victoria Karalius (Adam), Ashley Shapero (Dan) and Kristen Owens. He also leaves behind 4 beautiful grandchildren: Mia Gabriella, Nadia Loren, Jake Charles and Callie Marie; his brother Robert Grocki, as well as his beloved dog Chase.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 20th, 2022, 9:00 am- 11:00 am at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third St., Hammonton where funeral services will take place at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing, NJ.
