Obituary of Lela T. McClendon

Lela Theresa McClendon, (nee Bourgeois) 90, of Newtonville, NJ passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at her residence. Born in Verdunville, LA, she lived most of her life in Newtonville. Lela retired from Whitehall Laboratories after working there for 20 years. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, where she served as Eucharistic Minister in Our Lady of Victories Church for many years. She loved her Church and spent many hours volunteering there when needed. Mrs. McClendon was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Julius McClendon and her great granddaughter, Brandy "Sage" young. Lela is survived by her daughter, DeBorrah Carter, four sons, Julius Eric McClendon, Todd McClendon, Virgil McClendon; Quentin McClendon, her sister, Almenia Bourgeois Kirk, her brother, Freddie Bourgeois; 8 grandchildren, Carla McClendon, Tanisha Young, Onen Davis, Nathan Carter, Julius Eric McClendon, III, Aaron McClendon, Nat'iasia Morales-McClendon, Olin McClendon; 10 great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Bryson, Felicia Bryson, Jeffrey Young, Justin Young, Nasir Davis, Isabella McClendon, Jayel McClendon, Jayden Carter, Jaxtyn Carter, 2 great great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Camille Bryson, III, and James Street, Jr. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Life Celebration will be held Friday, June 3, 2022 5:30 PM at the Carnesale Funeral Home 202 S. Third St., Hammonton, NJ, where a viewing will be held from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 4, 2022, 11:00 am in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, Church of Our Lady of Victories, 202 North West Blvd. Landisville, NJ., where a viewing will be held from 10:00am - 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery, Newtonville.
