Obituary of Alexander Pierce, Jr.

Alexander Pierce, Jr., 86, of Newtonville, NJ passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at home. Born on March 22, 1935, in Little Washington, NC to the late Alexander and Virginia Pierce, Sr. Alexander met his wife of 62 years, the late Joyce R. (Bumbrey) Pierce while working in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden. He was a retired welder working for several different companies during his retiring from Dupont Chamber Works in Deepwater, NJ. He also owned and operated Alex and Sons Welding Company. He was honorably discharged from the National Guard and as a Reserve of the Army of the United States. Mr. Pierce was a former member of the Newtonville Vol. Fire Company where he served as Fire Commissioner. He was a member of the Newtonville Senior Center and Calvary Bible Tabernacle, where he once served as Trustee. Alex enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. He was a "jack of all trades" and a master of some. He was a country boy at heart who loved the outdoors. He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce, his son Jeffrey Lyle Pierce and his sister, Doris Marie Drummonds. Mr. Pierce is survived by his son Andre Lamont Pierce, his daughter, Sharette Pierce, his sister in law, Carol Bumbrey, his grandchildren, Aneesha Phillips, Patrice Pierce, Latwan Newton, Jeffrey Pierce, Jr., Celeste Nelson (Gary), Akeem Pierce and Markiese Pierce (Brittany) and 7 great grandchildren. Mr. Pierce is also survived by his nieces, Audrey Drummonds, Sharon Holmes (Richard), Priscilla Radcliffe (Rick), LaRhonda Bumbrey and Doreen Crone (Darrell), his nephews, Carl Johnson, Johnathan Drummonds, Sr. (Donna), and James Cochrane, Jr. (Dorrie) and a host of great nieces, nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services and Entombment in Greenmount Cemetery will be Private and held at the convenience of the family.
