Obituary of Richard White, Sr.
Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard White, Sr. 75, of Pleasantville, New Jersey, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. He passed peacefully after a short illness at Samaritan Hospice, with his oldest daughter, Rachelle "Mimi", and family by his side.
Richard was born December 23, 1945, in Natchez, Mississippi, the son of the late Dealia and Johnnie White.
Richard went to Oakcrest High School in Mays Landing, New Jersey. He was a US Army Veteran who was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After his military service, he joined his father as a laborer in Local 415. He later joined and retired from Local 172.
As a young boy, Richard developed a love for sports and outdoors. He was an excellent baseball player and really showed his strength as a wrestler. He was a man whose everyday life included fishing, hunting, construction, home repairs, helping others any way that he could, and always working mechanically with his hands. He could fix any small engine and enjoyed sharing his gift with his brothers. As "the boss" Richard was a perfectionist and he would take his time to make sure his projects were to his standard.
Richard will always be remembered for his generosity, kind heart and love of the outdoors. Most of all, he loved his family and was the epitome of a strong family man. He would make sure to check in with his loved ones, and often as a word of comfort would say "it is what it is".
Richard was predeceased by his son Richard "Tyree" White, Jr. of Pleasantville, NJ; his parents Dealia and Johnnie White of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; his brothers Johnnie "June" White of Chicago, IL; Willie White, Sr. (Carol), Earl White, Sr. (Olivia), Mack White of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; and his sisters Odessa White of Pleasantville, NJ; and Annie Johnson of Natchez, MS.
Richard will be sorely missed by his daughters Rachelle White (Johnny) of Pine Hill, NJ; Nikesha Gunter (Dolly) of Pleasantville, NJ; Rahshaunda Smith (Kevin) of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; and Cherese Thorpe of Egg Harbor City, NJ; and his son William McClendon of Bradenton, FL. He is survived by his loving brothers Leon White, Sr. (Anna) of Newtonville, NJ; AJ White (Charise) and Otis White (Gloria) of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; Arthur White, Sr. (Margaret) of Millville, NJ; and Albert Johnson of Atlanta, GA. He leaves five sisters to cherish his memories, Luebirta Ames of Absecon, NJ; Olivia Dorsey-Conrad (Julius) and Jessie Duncan (Arthur) of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; Rosa Murphy (Robert) of Milford, DE; and Nita Bailey (Phillip) of Pleasantville, NJ. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Shirley White of Chicago, IL, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Richard loved and adored his grandchildren and often shared their photos with his siblings. They were near and dear to his heart.
Richard would like to be remembered for being a man of his word, a hard worker and willing to help anyone in need.
