I was an SAE with Bill at Northern Illinois. Although he was a little older than me, I remember him well. I’m sorry for his family and will always be remembered. I received the message from another fraternity brother Tom Backe. My deepest condolences.

Hello Friends and Relatives of Bill
Bill was a loved brother in Delta Phi Beta/Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois.
In January of 1967 a group of fraternity brothers were enjoying an informal meet at NIU’s Student Union.
Bill, Jerry Terhune, Dave Thompson, John Rakitan and I were intrigued by an ad in the Northern Star offering round-trip rail travel to Colorado's “Winter Park Ski Area.” , fully outfitted with Skis, boots, poles, a week’s on-site lodging, along with a week’s meals served at the lodge. Bill knew a good deal... $111.00 for all services provided.
After the initial surprise of the lack of snow when we arrived at Denver’s Union Station in late February’67, we enjoyed the second leg of the journey, downtown Denver to Winter Park via Colorado’s legendary “Ski Train.”
Despite the lack of snow in Denver, we were gifted with several inches of fresh snow almost every day, setting the stage for great ski learning experiences, bonding and lasting memories.
Bill...You are missed.
Tom Backe. SAE Fraternity Brother
Colorado Resident since 1973.

These past few weeks I had the unforeseen pleasure of staying at Bill and Maria’s place while waiting to move into an apartment. Bill made the largest cheeseburgers for dinner I ever laid my eyes on. Huge is a better description then largest, and they were delicious as well. He also made a point of bringing me bagels as well. That was Bill though very caring and treated my sister Maria like a Queen. Did everything for her.
The day I left to move to my apartment. I went back into the house to say goodbye and he acted surprised I was leaving or he was just glad I was finally out of his beard. As I think about it these last few days maybe he wanted me to stay a little longer because he felt like something was happening to him. I don’t know but you know what is said about hindsight. Anyhow we said goodbye. I thanked him and left.
I miss you Brother! God Bless and thanks for being a part of my family.

Surfing, even had a canoe together that we surfed with. Feared Sophie as much as he and Louie did. I will never forget him and will remember him with a smile of good times.
