I had the pleasure of interacting with Jack in multiple avenues when I was 8 years old, whether as the batboy for the St. Joe baseball team, or the ball boy for the basketball team, or when he visited our home as a friend to my brother. Regardless, one image that stood out of Jack Farren were his multiple athletic, musical & artistic skills, compounded by an electrifying personality. I saw him pitch as both a right hander & a left hander, while he ran the bases like a deer. In basketball, he would strip the ball from opposing guards like a professional pick pocket, while on the St. Joe tag football team, he danced past defenders as if he were standing still. Most amazing was that Jack was an entire year younger than most of his classmates. Now throw into the mix his prankster & comical character, & one understands why his schoolmates adored him. However, Jack never embellished his talents to others, but he knew how to love life. Some of his classmates are still here who actually visualized & can testify the many stories passed down from his days at St. Joe.However my fortune was that I was able to be the little, young camera who watched & followed him thru his multiple talents. Jack Farren made such a impression on me that I consider him to be the other brother I would have been proud to have.
