Obituary of Anthony M. Cassano, Jr.

Anthony M. Cassano, Jr., a nearly lifelong resident of Hammonton, New Jersey, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends at Virtua Hospital in Voorhees, NJ, on August 8, 2023. Anthony was 89 years old. Anthony was predeceased by his father, Anthony M. Cassano, Sr., his mother, Anastazija (Anna) (Ignatovich) Cassano and his wife, Antoinette (Ricco) Cassano. He is survived by his daughters Anita Cassano (Roy), and Annette Hamm (Glenn), as well his grandchildren David Hamm (Jennifer) and Diana Hamm, his brother in law Daniel Ricco; his cat, Bunny, and many nieces and nephews. Anthony was a graduate of the Hammonton High School class of 1953, where he was a member of the Key Club and also served as Key Club Governor. He was also a graduated from the Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia in 1954, with a certificate in machine shop practice. He was employed by William B. Kessler Manufacturing, also as known as Hammonton Park Clothes, from 1956 until its closing in 1976. During this time, he was also employed part-time by Suburban Propane. After the closing of William B. Kessler, it afforded him the opportunity to pursue one of his passions, which was music, as he started his own business the Disc Jockey’s. During his career as a disc jockey, he played at many area venues including the Mediterranean Lounge in Somers Point, NJ. Later, he pursued his other lifelong passion, which was photography. He worked, until his retirement, as a professional photographer at his own business, Better Image Photography. From the time he was young, wherever he went, he always had his camera in hand and took a great deal of local photographs from the 1950’s onward. Anthony was dedicated to serving the communities where he resided by volunteering at the Galloway Township Rescue Squad from 1968 until 1976, where he also served as President. He later volunteered at the Hammonton Rescue Squad beginning in 1985 where he remained a member until the squad was disbanded. Anthony was a former President of the Hammonton Rescue Squad. He also created a Board of Trustees for the rescue squad and served as chairman from 1997 - 2001. A Viewing will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2023 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third Street in Hammonton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Mary of Mount Carmel Parish, Saint Joseph’s Church, on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 10:00 AM. He will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Hammonton.
