Cristobal T. Melendez, "Mateo", 77 of Landisville, NJ passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, with his loved ones by his side. He was born in Morovis, Puerto Rico. Mateo formerly worked as a custodian at the Texas Ave. School in Atlantic City. He was a member of the Cursillista Movement. Mateo enjoyed playing the guitar and played for over 35 years at a few of the local churches, St. Nicholas Church Our Lady of Perpetual Help church in Egg Harbor City and for St. Mary of Mount Carmel Parish Church of St. Joseph's in Hammonton. Chris was a big Yankee fan. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Iraida Melendez (Nee Reyes); his son, Carlos Melendez; his daughters Maritza Melendez and Valerie Casillas (Angel) and their children, Harry Padilla, Joel Padilla, Angelique Casillas and Jayden Casillas, 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 14, 2025, 11:00 am in St. Nicholas Church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, 525 S. Louis Ave., Egg Harbor City, NJ. A burial will follow at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hammonton.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM and again on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third St., Hammonton, NJ. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial donations be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Music Ministry, 146 S Pitney Road Galloway,NJ
