Gilberto Matos, 82, of Elwood section of Mullica Township passed away at home on Monday, September 22, 2025. Born in Comerio, PR he has lived in the Hammonton/Mullica Township area for over fifty years. Before retiring he worked as a corrections officer at the Atlantic County Jail in Mays Landing. He had previosly served as a councilman for Mullica Township and was owner of Matos Restaurant in Hammonmton. He enjoyed cooking, barbecuing, dancing to Spanish music, watching boxing and he was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan.
He is survived by his wife, Zoraida Matos (Quiles), his children, Joyell Santiago (Obed Santiago), Taina Matos, Luis Flores, and Lizzette Matos, grandchildren, Asia Croff (Bradley Green), Deana Flores, Brielle Santiago, Ethan Santiago, Logan Santiago, Juan Antonio Matos, Jashua Joyell Matos, one great granchild, Aaliyah Green, many brothers, sisters, brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third Street in Hammonton. There will be no visitation on Saturday morning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish Church of St. Joseph's, 226 French Street in Hammonton. Burial will follow at Holy Sepu;chre Cemetery, 124 S. First Road, Hammonton, NJ.
