Denise A. Saia, 72, of Hammonton passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at home. Born in Camden, she was a lifelong resident of Hammonton and a 1970 graduate of St. Joseph High School. Denise graduated from Glassboro State College BA in History, Rowan University MA in Library Science, Rutgers University-Camden MA in Public History. Prior to graduating from Rutgers she presented a paper on Mary Todd Lincoln at the History in the Making VI Conference at Concordia University in Montreal.
Denise was employed at the Hammonton News, a librarian at the Atlantic County Library in Mays Landing and Hammonton branches and a reference librarian at the Stockton University Library. Prior to retiring in 2015 she was the Director of the Franklin Township Library in Franklinville.
Denise was the recipient of the Medallion Award - The Rinehart Potts Excellence in School and Public Librarianship Amy Job Partnership Award. She was a member of the New Jersey Library Association.
Denise was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Grace (Graziano) Saia. She is survived by a son, Steven Furgione (Brandy) of Hammonton, a daughter, Stefanie Dooley (Brent) of Hammonton, granddaughters, Lorenza Furgione, Georgia Dooley, and grandsons Giacomo Furgione and Kelley Dooley, sister, Melanie Olivo (Bill), niece, Caitlyn Cifaloglio (Vince), and nephew, Jason Olivo (Katie).
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third Street in Hammonton, NJ. Funeral services will be private, and burial will be private at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hammonton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 4 Paws Dog Rescue of New Jersey, PO Box 492, Berlin, NJ 08009.
