Juan Eduardo Nuñez, 73, of Pleasantville, NJ, went home to rejoice with his heavenly father on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025. He passed peacefully while he slept in his home. Eduardo, as everyone new him, was born in Cardenas, a city in the province of Matanzas, Cuba. He graduated from the University of Las Villas, Santa Clara as a history teacher. He took a professor position in a school in Jagüey Grande, Cuba where he met his wife Carmen Mantilla. After they married they settled in his family's home in Cardenas. He moved his entire family to the United States in May, 1980 finally moving to Hammonton, NJ, in January, 1987. Eduardo had an entrepreneurial spirit. He was self-employed for most of his life, and started several business ventures. In 1987 he was recognized by the Poetry Society of America for his poetry, and creative writings that he set to music. In 1996 director, Ron Stanford, filmed his life and created the documentary "Yo soy hechicero" which would go on to win many awards at various film festivals. The movie is currently featured by IMDb. He attended many showings at multiple colleges and universities, and was featured in the popular show Christina on the Univision network. Eduardo's storytelling talent captivated the imagination and attention of entire audiences. His stories will forever remain in our hearts, and will be a source of comfort to everyone that knew him. For his generosity, humor, and eccentric lifestyle embraced the spirit of the American dream, and allowed him to live his life free and on his own terms.
Eduardo was predeceased by his ex-wife Carmen Mantilla, parents, Herminia Alfonso and Justo Nuñez, sister Robertina Nuñez, and twin brothers Jose Luis Nuñez and Juan Luis Nuñez. He is survived by his daughters Danays Hernández, married to Vincente Hernández Jr. (Hammonton), and Daymis Alicea, married to Gilberto Alicea (Mays Landing), grandchildren Daymi Alvarado, partner Carlos Rolón (West Chester, PA), Dianeli Alvarado, partner Ryan Findeison (Mays Landing), Jaythan Alvarado, married to Dominique Alvarado (Mays Landing), Julian Alicea (Virginia), Jacob Alicea (California), and Dayani Alicea (Mays Landing), and great grandchildren, Delanie, Carlos, Jaxon, and Jaycen Rolón (West Chester, PA), and Dakota Alvarado (Mays Landing).
Funeral services are private. Anyone wishing to pay their respects may visit the home of Danays Hernández to pray a Novena that begins Sat., April 5th at 7pm in her home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society of Atlantic County, 1401 Absecon Blvd, Atlantic City, NJ 08401.
