Manuel Ramirez, age 76, passed away in the company of loved ones in his Mullica Township home in NJ on Saturday May 21, 2016. A funeral service will be held Tuesday evening on May 24th at the Hammonton Presbyterian Church at 326 Bellevue Avenue, Hammonton. A viewing will be held at 4pm followed by a service at 8:00pm at the same location at the church. Manuel was predeceased by his loving mother Sixta Ramirez and father Julian Garcia. He was born on January 1, 1940 in the town of Arecibo in Puerto Rico. He was one of six children. As an ambitious teenager eager to find a job, Manuel was attracted to the mainland's post-war economic expansion and he left Puerto Rico in search of opportunity. He found work in agriculture in Freehold, NJ. There he eventually started a family and had his first daughter. He later found a job working for the Washington Forge company in Englishtown, NJ. The company then moved to South Jersey and Manuel followed, moving to Egg Harbor City. While living in Egg Harbor City, he was blessed with another daughter from his second marriage. In the mid to late 1970s Manuel found steady employment at the Caesars Casino in Atlantic City. He continued working there up until April of 2016; nearly 40 years. He took great pride in his job and in the lifelong friendships he made at the casino. Throughout his years of service at the casino, he won several accolades including Employee of the Year. In the 1970s, Manuel also made the Wharton Park community in Mullica Twp. his permanent residence. There he met his current wife and helped raise a son and a daughter. Manuel regularly attended the Hammonton Presbyterian Church and was an active participant at the church. Manuel exemplified a strong work ethic. He enjoyed going to his job and working at home during his time off. He was always in pursuit of the next home project or repair. Manuel found leisure in a game of dominoes with friends and in lively discussions of politics or current events. He will be remembered for his excitement for life and his energetic personality. He will be particularly remembered for his magnanimity towards both people he knew and those he just met. Manuel was preceded in death by two of his brothers, Sixto Garcia and Jose Dolores Rodriguez.
